Since there hasn't been a lot of interest lately monthlyDV will take a hiatus for a while. We'll reevaluate the site, and possibly open it back up in the spring. Thanks to everyone who has submitted or watched the videos. As thanks we'll send everyone we have an address for one of the authentic toy Hollywood Replica Slate Boards.

Here's a few videos we made recently until we return. If you want to send in a video by all means do and we'll post it to the site.

This video was entered in the Obstructionist Channel on Vimeo. The challenge was to interpret dialog from a script provided into a short film. Give it a try.

I am a new Premiere Elements 3.0 user and this is my first stop motion project. It took about 2 hours to capture with live feed, but alot of time in prep work. Hopefully, it will give you something to think about.

This video is based on my grandpa's motto: "It ain't what 'chya got to put on, it's what you got to put in it that counts." The piece is meant to comment on the nature of humans to place conclusions and assumptions on someone based on what they are wearing. For this piece, I gathered up a majority of my wardrobe (15 shirts, 3 shoes, 3 hats, and 4 pairs of pants) and proceeded to make every possible combination of these pieces of clothing and putting them on (about 720 combinations). I did this to show that to people who do not know me, people who see me walking down the street of driving in my car, see my clothes and what I'm wearing as a big factor in determining the "type" of person I am. I don't think there is a way to stop this from happening, and I don't think it is necessarily bad all the time, but it definitely needs to be realized. The reason I don't think it is bad all the time is because many people wear certain clothing in order to express themselves and use their wardrobe to tell something about themselves on purpose.

This is a hand animated short film about the moon’s journey to the
sky on one particular night. Materially, I used cut paper with a
limited color palette for the sets and characters. I used the
program Frame-thief in conjunction with a digital video camera for
capturing the stills onto my computer and edited the frames
together with Final Cut to make the end product.
I have always been interested in the way animation can give life and
personality to utterly anything. Conceptually I wanted to bridge
the gap between the second and fourth dimensions, while
excluding the third. I was inspired by the incredible city of
Amsterdam in the Netherlands and the ever-present moon in the
night sky.

"Amsterdam" is meant to be a fun piece which examines the way
we see our physical world. The piece also deals with surrealist
ideas and is very dream-like in fasion.

I was recording a song for my blog, on the ukulele I built from a kit, with my Canon miniDV camcorder. I usually leave the lens cap on when I do this, but I must have had it off for the first couple of takes. I found the video while importing another video off of the tape.

We did this on Saturday with 249 digital photographs. We used JPGVideo, which is a free program that creates an AVI file from a series of images. We then used Adobe Premiere Elements to add music and fades. I think down the road we'll do a longer video using the same process.

I'm an occasional poster on the Adobe Premiere Elements Forums. Early in September I had some time to do some experiments with my camcorder.

Finally got some inspiration to finish it as it has been sitting on my hard drive for about a year now. My son was 2 and a half years old when the footage was shot last summer. Just some basic movie maker effects added with a commentary found on the British Pathe website where you can download low res videos - the commentary quality was good enough to borrow for my video. Apart from the WMM effects entirely edited in Premiere Elements V1.

We shot this video at the National Zoo in Washington, DC. Of course the animals there are often displaying various forms of motion as they go about their day, and we tried to capture some of their personality as we filmed them at motion. The song is from The Pernice Brothers, and we used it because of its tempo and the fact that we like it a lot. You can check out more of their music at their website.

I miss weeklydv.com, a site created by Jason Zada that was extremely helpful to me when I first started shooting and editing video. The site entailed a weekly theme, usually one word or short phrase, and contributors were supposed to create a short video based on that theme. The videos were to be filmed and edited in a day or less.

The site sort of faded away because of the time and effort required to manage the site, and the limitation that the contributors had to have their own available space to host videos. With the advent of free and easy to maintain sites like blogger, and the ability to have video hosted on sites like youTube and Google Video for free, those issues are no more.

This an attempt to resurrect the concept of weeklyDV. Instead of a weekly theme, I will post a new theme the first of every month, probably starting on September 1st, 2006. Contributors will have about 15 to 20 days to film, edit, and submit a link to there video.

Additionally, a Star Chamber like group of secret judges will select their favorite submission for that month's theme, and that contributor will be awarded a custom monthlyDV winners t-shirt (sure to become a collector's item!).
